5 Great Team Building Games for The Office

Team Building Games

A team that works well together, thrives together! Team members that work together are more effective, more productive and more successful. Not to mention, the work place is so much more pleasant when you have team members you enjoy being around. It can be a little difficult bringing your team together, but don’t worry – these team building games always do the trick.

We know what you’re thinking, “Yeah, but your typical team building games tend to cause more eye rolls than high-fives, and my employees are going to think I’m trying to be the next Michael Scott from The Office.” Trust us, adults can have fun playing games too! Spend one afternoon playing these team building games, and watch your team work together while having a blast! Here are five epic team building games for the office to learn, laugh and connect.

Epic Team Building Games

1. Back-to-Back Drawing

Helps build: Communications Skills

What You’ll Need: Two small Think Boards, dry erase markers, and printouts of simple drawings or basic shapes.

Instructions: Split your group into pairs, and have each pair sit back to back. Give one team member a picture of a simple drawing or basic shape, and give the other the small Think Board and a dry erase marker. The person with the picture will give verbal instructions to their partner on how to draw the drawing or shape they’ve been given, without telling them what the drawing or shape is. After a set amount of time, have each pair compare their images and see which team drew the most accurate depiction of the drawing or shape.

2. Marshmallow Spaghetti Tower

Helps build: Creative Problem Solving and Collaboration Exercise

What You’ll Need: 20 uncooked spaghetti noodles, one roll of masking tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow for each team.

Instructions: Using only these supplies, see which team can build the tallest tower. The catch? The marshmallow has to be at the very top of the spaghetti tower, and the whole structure has to stand on its own for five seconds. Oh, and no hands or other objects are allowed to support the tower! Pretty hilarious, right?

3. Company Coat of Arms

Helps build: Relationships and Bonding

What You’ll Need: One large white whiteboard, and dry erase markers.

Instructions: Have your teams create a company crest or coat of arms; like in Game of Thrones, how each house has its own crest, now your office will have its own coat of arms! In the first space on the whiteboard, draw something that represents a recent achievement. In the second space, draw something that represents your company values. In the third space, draw something that represents where you see the company going in the future. Post the finished coat of arms in the office, and represent it like every house does in Game of Thrones.

4. Memory Wall

Helps build: Team Bonding and Icebreakers

What You’ll Need: A whiteboard and dry erase markers.

Instructions: Write some general work-related topics on the whiteboard: “Teamwork,” ‘Work Travel,” “My First Day,” etc. Have your team choose one of the topics, and share a story from their time with your company. Within minutes, you’ll notice your team laughing and bonding over old memories of working together and special team accomplishments. Once someone shares a memory, have them post it onto the whiteboard (using words or pictures), forming a positive memory cloud.

5. Minefield

Helps with: Creative Problem Solving and Collaboration Exercise

What You’ll Need: An empty hallway or room, and a collection of common office items.

Instructions: Using old boxes, office chairs, staplers, water bottles, etc. to create an epic obstacle course of “mines” within an empty hallway or room. Divide the group off into pairs, and have one partner blindfolded. Have the other partner at the end of the “minefield,” guiding their partner through the course without setting off any mines. The person guiding their partner can’t enter the course, and they’re only allowed to use verbal instructions to get their partner through. Get ready to laugh because this game is hilarious!

Now that you’re equipped with an epic list of team building games, don’t be afraid to introduce them to your office! Your employees and team members will have an awesome time while playing these team building games, and they’ll bond while developing important communications skills.
